Community engagement

A new framework and guide for engagement within the architectural design process outlining when, how and who an architect should engage during the design process, up to and including RIBA Stage 3 works.

The study analysed, mapped and drew conclusions from the processes of three practices, each working at different scales and on different project types, but with the common themes of understanding people and place, building trust and giving power back to communities.

The framework outlines proposed stages of engagement aligned to the Plan of Work. Key stages include scoping, gathering and vision before an iterative process is suggested throughout the concept and developed design stages, with public engagement as a means of testing the themes and design principles identified by targeted user groups.
